IT STARTS WITH A CHILD'S STORY
Each Transformations newsletter begins with a child’s experience. These are often children Dr. Morse has personally resuscitated. Their stories are simple and powerful, and relatively untainted by adult cultural expectations. Their experiences cannot be glibly dismissed as hallucinations, yet cannot be blindly embraced as objective insight into an afterlife. Dr. Morse feels deeply honored that dozens of children have shared their stories with him; the stories are the inspiration for his search for the meaning of the near death experience.

In this issue I will present the thesis that near death experiences can serve as a cultural icebreaker to reinvigorate a dialogue about death and dying. It is general acknowledged that medical care for dying patients is inhumane and irrational. The causes of this are also well known. Both physicians and patients alike agree that there is too much expensive, intrusive and completely unnecessary medical care at the end of life, but communications between health care providers and patients is poor. We are all afraid to talk about death. Perhaps discussing the spiritual aspects of dying would lead naturally into a more productive dialogue about end-of-life care and we would see a cascade of clinical benefits from the dialogue. This could save us 4 billion dollars a year in irrational end-of-life care.
I also finish the discussion of the origins of the near death experience, from Ancient Egypt through the Templars and finishing with modern Freemasons such as George Washington.
THE MANY PARTS OF THE ELEPHANT
Transformations will serve as a ongoing course in near death studies. This is a multidisciplinary field. We will, of necessity, cover subjects from seemingly unrelated fields ranging from death and dying, the healing of grief, neurobiology, modern evolutionary theories, spiritual healing, and paranormal abilities, to Australian aborigines and UFO and alien encounters.
LEARNING FROM THE LIGHT
Transformations will be practical. For example, one issue will demonstrate how learning about near death experiences can help us to understand the biological underpinnings of mind-body healing. Dr. Morse will review the latest research in mind-body healing and will include enough information so that any person can try these healing techniques for themselves. These are simple techniques proven to prolong life and promote health, and anyone can do them.
Transformations will be interactive. Readers can write to Dr. Morse through the newsletter. He’ll share their experiences with Transformations readers, as well as answer questions.
Often readers will have something to present that doesn’t agree with or endorse. He will present alternative and opposing viewpoints in a Readers Forum, so all sides in this evolving dialogue will be presented.

We will have a research forum, initially in the newsletter, and ultimately online. Dr. Morse invites and challenges any researchers to present their ideas and projects in this feature. Scathing criticism and withering scientific debate will be openly invited. Dr. Morse realizes that he is attempting to overthrow the current scientific and philosophical mainstream.
Our current projects are on the use of spiritual visions in grief counseling, and the immunology of the near death experience.
